Spousal Maintenance

The term "spousal maintenance" refers to an ongoing payment from one spouse to the other. This is a type of alimony that is paid on a regular basis until the receiving spouse remarries, dies, or cohabits with another person. Spousal maintenance can be granted as part of a divorce settlement or as an order from a court. It can also be awarded in cases where there has been no marriage but there have been children and someone needs to take care of them.
